What is Universal Access (UA)?

Universal Access time is a dedicated part of the school day especially focused on providing instruction matched to the needs of students. UA supports students' access to core instruction and promotes their learning and growth. It is part of the district's commitment to provide high quality curriculum and instruction to all students.

Universal Access time supports all learners by

  • accelerating growth for students who have not yet met academic standards,

  • developing language proficiency for multilingual learners, and

  • providing enrichment opportunities for on level and advanced learners.

Intentional teaching and formative assessment form the foundation of Universal Access. UA is provided through differentiated instruction and facilitated through assessments that serve to determine student needs, form student groupings, and continuously monitor student progress.

Teachers provide 90 minutes per week of UA in English Language Arts or Mathematics at the elementary level and 100 minutes per week in both English Language Arts and Mathematics at the intermediate level.
