Classroom Information and Supply List

Here is some important information and a suggested supply list for the upcoming school year - please read:

Daily Dolphin Folder: Your child will be given a blue, two pocket folder with your child’s name printed on it. This folder needs to return to school daily. Please check this folder daily; you will see a day chart/reading log in the left pocket (starting next week). Please initial the chart and fill in the reading log everyday (please be sure to put the AR quiz number). I will check the folder daily for any important information you may have sent with your child. If you ever have notes, money, etc. please place it in your child’s folder. Thank you!

Homework Packets: We will begin homework packets next week. The packets will go home on Friday, Aug. 11 and are expected to return the following Friday, August 18. I do this to allow families extra time to complete homework if you have busy work or sports schedules. Homework is meant to be a review/practice of skills. If your child is struggling with a homework assignment, please have them bring it to me so I can help them with it.

Weekly Newsletter: You will find a newsletter attached to the homework packet. This will include important information for the week and future.

Snack/Recess: We will have a snack/recess in the morning at 9:50. All of our hard work is sure to make the children hungry, please try to send a snack. Also, please send your kiddos with a water bottle (with some type of “pop up” top), especially on these warm days. Thank you

Classroom Management: One of my goals as a teacher is to create a positive learning environment where all students feel safe, confident, and are able to take risks. I try to make classroom expectations clear so all students are able to understand and be successful. We will work on classroom expectations together to include student ideas. To help students monitor their behavior I have a class card system, please see attached sample Day Chart for more information. Please check your student’s chart daily to see the color of their day. Students always have an opportunity to change their card back to blue throughout the day. My goal is to keep a positive engaging classroom where all students can achieve.

Volunteers:  I can’t wait to get more volunteers into the classroom and help with classroom preparations, we truly appreciate the support of our awesome parents! I will have more information on this at Back to School Night!

PE: Our class will go to PE on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (12:30 pm). Please make sure they wear appropriate shoes and bring a water bottle with a “pop top” on hot days.

AR: All students will be starting with a 5 point AR goal for the first six weeks. Each morning, for the first 20 minutes of school, students may take up to three AR tests. I will assist them as needed. When looking for books in our school library please try to find books with a pink star, these books come with audio assessments with the AR program. Please make sure your child is reading 15 minutes daily. Writing the book title and AR quiz number on your child’s reading log helps your student locate the quiz quickly and easily. If students need additional time to take an AR quiz they will have time throughout the day. I will be covering AR in more detail at Back to School Night.
