Golden Retriever dog licking teacher's face

Mrs. Weitzel

Welcome back to school, everyone! I have been teaching in the Etiwanda School District since 2004. I have both Special Education and Multiple Subject credentials. Currently, it is my pleasure to be teaching Math for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Special Day Classes.  I look forward to working together with my students and their parents to support a successful educational experience as we prepare our children for the future.

All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom within each specific grade level.

Daily Homework will include reading for at least 20 minutes. This is crucial to helping your children gain background knowledge in general, which will help them understand situations and solutions for real-world problems in their lives.
Parents, please continue to read
with your children. This is the single most important skill for them and they are never too old to need help with reading comprehension. Audiobooks are available online through SORA, an APP that can be found on their school Google accounts. They are also available through your local library. These books can be at a higher level, giving them access to more age-appropriate vocabulary and higher-interest topics.

As the Math teacher, I may send home unfinished work or ask the students to practice some basic facts and skills online for homework. I do not typically send home grade-level work if they cannot do it independently. I need to see what they are doing and give instant feedback to avoid having them practice badly.

Any reading material is acceptable - books, magazines, newspapers. You may even read ahead in your textbooks. Take notes on what you have read so you can be ready for your classes.

Please bring water bottles daily and masks if desired. It is extremely warm outside and all students need to stay hydrated without leaving their seats constantly. If your child has a fever, please keep them at home. We all want to stay safe and healthy at school.

Email is the best way to communicate with me. Call the office if there is something that needs my immediate attention as I do not check my email when teaching.
