Ms. Holcomb at her Master's graduation

Ms. Holcomb's Class

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!

Welcome to 8th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies! My name is Ms. Holcomb and I am so excited to be your teacher this year! This will be my third year in Etiwanda School District and first year in 8th grade. I am thrilled to share the experience with you!

I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis in Human Development and received my teaching credential and Master's in Education from the University of La Verne! I love to have fun and discover new ways to make lessons engaging for all of my students!

When I am not teaching, I am coaching water polo. I love being by the pool and sharing the sport I fell in love with to others! I also enjoy traveling, the Dodgers, and spending time with my family in my spare time.

I cannot wait to get to know all of you and to get this school year started!

Assignments

You can view all homework assignments on the link provided below. I update this document daily. Students should have enough time to complete assignments in class. Anything not finished during class time will become homework.

Absent students can view what they missed for both classwork and homework on this HW Log and gather any missing papers when they return. If an assignment is on Google Classroom, it will be noted.

Reading at Home

Language arts homework will be primarily based on independent reading and reading response assignments to accompany their chosen book. Students should be reading at least 20 minutes every day at home. I will collect information at the beginning of the year to help meet the interests and needs of individual students' reading lives. Students will set a book goal to work towards each trimester.

Rooms Communication Platform

This year, we are launching a new, two-way communication platform called Rooms. Students will be entered on the first day of school. This is where I will be posting announcements and will be the main way to reach me.

Parents/Guardians: All Etiwanda families will be receiving an email from EduRooms in August to set up a Rooms account, as well as a flyer your student will bring home on the first day of school. This email will have a unique magic code for your child. This one-time registration process will need to be completed in order to use the Rooms two-way communication platform. Once registered, please be sure to turn on push notifications in the app so you can stay up to date!

Additional information can be found here.
