Welcome to Mrs. Oshiro's 3rd Grade Class!

"Reaching New Heights" 2023-2024

Dear D4  Parents,

Welcome to the new school year!  I am pleased to introduce myself to you.  My name is Megan Oshiro and I will be your child’s third grade teacher.  I am very excited to have your child in my class and look forward to many rewarding experiences throughout the school year.

I would like to share my teaching experiences and educational background with you.   This is my twelfth year teaching third grade at Etiwanda Colony.   I have also taught fourth and fifth grade at schools within the district.  Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in the Etiwanda School District as an instructional assistant and substitute teacher.  These experiences have provided me the opportunity to work with students in preschool through eighth grade. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies through California State University of San Bernardino and I earned my teaching credential and Master’s Degree from the University of La Verne.

Having been a part of the Etiwanda School District since I was a student in kindergarten, I want to provide the same kind of positive learning opportunities with your child that I experienced.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns email me.

Warmly,

Megan Oshiro

Please pay attention to the ZPD in order to challenge your child and facilitate growth.  Your child should only read books that fall within .5 above and .5 below their ZPD.  For example, if your child’s ZPD is 2.5 – 3.5 then they should only read books that fall between 2.0 and 4.0.  Exceptions will be made for class read- alouds, books read by the librarian, and if they are in Battle of the Books (BOB).   Quizzes that that do not meet the above criteria will not count towards making their goal and will be deleted form their accounts.  Additionally, the students must score an 80% or higher on their test in order to accrue points.

Dear D4 Families,

Good news! This month's Scholastic Reading Club flyers are ready for you to explore with your child. Children read more when they choose their own books, so I encourage you to look at the flyers together. Each flyer is filled with grade-specific, affordable titles and Storia® eBooks.

Place your order online at scholastic.com/readingclub. Ordering online is the easiest way to ensure I get your order on time. Also, there are more books to choose from as well as teacher recommendations.

Thank you for your support!
