Announcements and Upcoming Events:

  • First Day of School is on Monday, August 7th, 2023. It will be a minimum day, so dismissal will be at 1:00pm.

  • Mark your calendars for our annual Back to School Night event. Teachers will be going over very important information regarding expectations, procedures and distance learning for the 2023-2024 school year. It will be held on Wednesday, August 9th.

Homework Procedures:

Students will be required to write down their homework in their Student Planners everyday.

  • 5-A-Day Language Review

    • Students will be given their 5-A-Day Language Review homework on Monday and will be checked everyday. Students will turn in their homework on Friday.

  • Reading Goals

    • As part of their homework, students are also required to read 4 books of their choice for each trimester for their reading goal.

    • Goals will be adjusted as needed for each student. They should read their book for at least 20 minutes everyday.

    • Students must ensure that each book you choose has been approved by your teacher.

    • No book worth less than 2 AR points will count toward their goal, unless they have received special permission from the teacher.

      • Any book with 10-14 points will count for two books.

      • Any book with 15-19 points will count for three books.

      • Any book with 20+ points will count for four books.

    • They must not abandon more than ONE book per Trimester.

    • If they check out a book during a time outside of class, they must wait to get approval from Ms. Abrahim.

    • They must take an AR test OR complete a Book Report to get credit for the book.

    • More than one AR test per day will not be accepted toward their goal, so they must wait to take their tests after finishing each book.

    • If they forget to bring their book to class, they may read another book. BUT they will lose their workshop points for that day.

    • They must read the same book for Workshop daily until they finish that book. They should not be reading more than one book at a time when working towards their goal.

  • Unfinished Classwork

    • Students will be given plenty of time to complete their classwork. However, any incomplete classwork will need to be completed as homework if class time is not used wisely.

    • Social studies homework is not assigned daily. Typically, it is unfinished classwork or projects that are assigned as homework.

Students must check Google Classroom, the Week at a Glance/Homework slide and the Aeries Portal to stay up to date on assignments.

No homework on Fridays!

The SOAR acronym is detailed below.

Scholarship – Students are encouraged to enhance their learning, improve their subject knowledge, and refine their study skills in order to improve their grades in their core classes.

Ownership – Students explore the power to have mastery over their academic progress and success.

Awareness -   Students improve their understanding and consciousness of effective academic skills.

Respect – Students learn to have high regard for others and themselves.

Universal Access:

Our primary focus will be to reinforce what is being taught in Language Arts.

This will be accomplished by providing differentiated instruction through whole group and small group instruction. Students will have the opportunity to ask clarifying questions about specific skills and concepts being taught during core instruction. Students will also have the opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers to reinforce and extend their learning.
