Mrs. Salinas

My name is Tina Salinas and I am thrilled to be your child's First Grade teacher!!!  I have been  married for 38 years to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 wonderful grown children.  This is my 35th year teaching, the last 24 years which have been in Etiwanda School District.  I have taught grades K-5 with 27 of those being in first grade!!

I can't wait to help your child learn, grow and succeed this year.  I will strive to provide enriching, motivating and rewarding virtual classroom experiences as we continue to learn to read, write, and work with numbers through hands on activities and exploration.  We will also practice respecting others, being good citizens and making good choices.

You will experience great growth with your First Grader this year!!  The foundations of reading, writing, and number sense will be continued and soon you will see changes in their thinking and approaches to problems and problem solving.  They will become better readers, writers, mathematicians, explorers, critical thinkers, storytellers, inventors, leaders and so much more.  I am so excited to begin this learning journey with you and your child!!!!

Homework Assignments

A homework packet will go home each Monday in the Homework folder. The homework is due on Friday. The Homework folder is extremely important to our communication – fliers and notices will go home in these. The homework folder needs to be returned each day. However homework is not due until Friday. Most homework is reinforcement and practice of what was learned in class and your child should be able to complete it on his/her own. Research shows that having a steady, quiet time and place to do homework improves achievement. The homework area should be stocked with supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors and paper as well as verbal praise and encouragement. Missed and incomplete homework will be handled during class and recesses. Circumstances come up in which your child may be unable to complete their homework. Please let me know. DAILY READING IS A PART OF THE DAILY HOMEWORK. THIS IS THE GREATEST WAY TO INSURE YOUR CHILD’S SUCCESS IN SCHOOL. I will monitor this through the reading log, weekly book report form, and our school Reading program. More information will be coming on these at a later date.
