Shannon Iavarone

My name is Mrs. Iavarone and I will be your child’s teacher this year.  I want to begin by agreeing with you that my last name is a bit of a mouth full, so let’s say it together...

“Eye-va-rone!”

Yes, it is Italian, and though I use my hands a lot to talk, I am not Italian, but I do love a piece of overly cheesy lasagna and would eat it everyday if I could, with a side of Hot Cheetos "naturally" and a vanilla latte!
I am pleased to see that your child’s education is important to you and feel lucky to have the opportunity to be their teacher this year.  I look forward to a great start with your child, and with your support, it will continue to be a great school year, guaranteed!
Please do remember, you are your child’s first teacher.  I believe all children can and want to learn.  You, as a parent, are the most important person in your child’s life and should be!  Your support, encouragement, and attention can make all the difference in the world!  So together, as a team, we can provide your child the education and necessary skills one needs to be a contributing member of our society.

Second grade is an exciting time filled with new experiences and challenges, a time where being an actively involved parent in your child’s learning will be of the up most benefit.  I also believe that every child can learn the concepts we will be teaching. So it is extremely important that all students know the importance, and also practice appropriate behavior, so that I may be able to teach effectively, giving every student an equal opportunity to learn.  Fostering a positive classroom environment, which encourages students to be responsible and respectful of one another, is beneficial for everyone!

Make every moment this year and years after a learning moment as we do here in the classroom, whenever possible: at the grocery store, when you are cooking, even doing yard work.  I am looking forward to a positive and successful year, and again I thank you in advance for the opportunity to work with you and your child.

Welcome to Second Grade!
Can’t wait to make it a “Magical!"

Homework Assignments

In Room E4 homework comes home every Monday and will be returned to school on Friday for credit. Students will be responsible to bring their Homework Folder to school on Monday for a cover page and Reading Log. They will then be responsible for tearing out their own math page in class, completing the front and the back which will pair with the math unit from that day taught in class, while also reading for 20 minutes a day. If your child is absent the day we do the math lesson, then they are responsible the next day to tear out the previous days classwork and homework to then make up and add to their homework packet. On Thursday's students will then staple all homework pages together (at home) and return their completed packet in their homework folder for turn in on Friday. If you have misplaced your homework cover page or reading log, or are absent on the Monday it is sent home, please email/Remind me so I can make sure to get the homework pages to your second grader as soon as possible.

***Please do not wait until Thursday night to let me know you are missing your homework cover, I will not be able to excuse your student on Friday for waiting until the last possible day to do weekly assigned homework. Thank you!!!

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THERE IS EVER THE CHANCE WE MAY GO TO HYBRID/VIRTUAL LEARNING THIS YEAR, KNOW IN ADVANCE THERE WILL BE NO HOMEWORK AND INDEPENDENT WORK WILL BE FOUND ONLINE UNDER "CLEVER" EACH DAY.
