Mrs. Kushin

Welcome to 6th grade at Day Creek Intermediate! My name is Darlene Kushin and I teach math and science. This will be my 28th year teaching elementary and middle school. This will be my 15th year at DCIS.

I am so excited to work with you and your child. It is going to be a year full of learning and lots of new experiences. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us! Here is a little bit about me.

I am married and we have two wonderful daughters and one amazing son! This summer my daughter was married in Florence, Italy. We are happy to have added a son-in-law to our family. We are a creative family who enjoys spending time together! My hobbies are traveling and getting together with my friends.

It is my goal that your child is successful not only academically but also as a well-rounded individual. I look forward to building a partnership with you and your child.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. It is so important to keep communication open between us and I would love to talk to you whenever you feel the need! I look forward to a great year together!

Universal Access: PACK

The UA period adds an extended instructional period to the school day by where students are grouped based on standardized data, district assessments, common formative assessments, and classroom performance. All students are grouped by academic target areas for UA classes. UA classes are designed to meet the unique academic needs of students by offering multiple levels of differentiated flexible classes. UA class changes may occur throughout the year as student levels of performance are realigned with the UA class that provides the best support.

Suggested School Supplies

Our school provides all students with the supplies they need for instruction in class; however, if you would like your child to have their own items instead of sharing items with a group, you may consider purchasing the following items. Also organization is key in 6th grade. It is not necessary to purchase the additional items, but in the past, the following items have been helpful for students in 6th grade.

Sharp wood pencils or mechanical pencils with extra lead

  • College ruled spiral notebooks for math

  • Silent reading book

  • Black flair pen for projects

  • Dry erase markers & an eraser

  • Pack of multicolored highlighters

  • Glue sticks

  • Pencil bag

  • Set of colored pencils

  • Pair of earbuds to use with Chromebook

Donations for class: Our school provides all of the items we need for instruction, but we tend to use a lot of these items at this grade level. If you would like to donate the following items to the class, we would appreciate the extra support.

  • White board markers

  • Black flair pens

  • Red pens

  • Kleenex

  • Paper towels

  • Fun sized candy

  • Ticonderoga pencils

  • Sheet protectors

  • Ziploc bags (Gallon, sandwich, snack)
