Etiwanda School District Receives

Exemplary School District Award

The Etiwanda School District is proud to announce that all four of their middle schools, Day Creek, Etiwanda, Heritage, and Summit Intermediate Schools have been named as 2019 California Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Education (CDE). In addition, CDE also awarded the Etiwanda School District the Exemplary District Award for the second consecutive year.

Schools were eligible to apply for the 2019 California Distinguished School award based upon their performance and progress on the state indicators as described on the California School Dashboard. Indicators include test scores, English learner progress and attendance rates. Winners represent examples of schools that demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, and collaboration in addition to having highly successful school climates. State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, said, “I would like to commend these schools for fighting for a better future for our students, closing achievement gaps, and improving academic performance. Thanks to teachers, administrators, classified employees, and parents working together, these schools meet the needs of all of their students, provide
high-quality educational experiences, and put kids on a pathway to great careers.”

Etiwanda School District Superintendent, Shawn Judson, added, “We are very proud of the work of all of our schools to provide all students with a
high-quality education that responds to the needs of every learner. Whenever I visit campuses, I am always so proud of all of our principals, teachers, students, staff, and parents who work together in innovative ways to help our children succeed in school. The fact that all of our middle schools are receiving an additional opportunity to be recognized for their efforts and achievement is a credit to the entire school community.”

The District was also honored with an Exemplary District Award. This award celebrates the achievements of districts that have implemented model practices that have had a positive impact on student outcomes. Etiwanda School District is one of eighteen districts in the state to receive this prestigious honor and one of only three districts
state-wide to have earned this distinction for two consecutive years.

The schools and the District will receive their awards at an awards ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim in April.
