Day Creek Intermediate School Named 2019 National Blue Ribbon School

(Rancho Cucamonga) Day Creek Intermediate School has been named as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award winner by the US Department of Education. The program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on academic performance and progress closing achievement gaps among student groups. The Etiwanda School District school was among 362 winners nationwide announced today by US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

"The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a tremendous accomplishment that reflects the hard work and commitment of an entire school community," said Superintendent Dr. Shawn Judson. "Day Creek Intermediate serves as a model of excellence in education as we continue our work to meet the needs of all students. Congratulations to the Day Creek community on this prestigious recognition."

Public schools nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award must meet one of two performance award criteria:

Exemplary High Performing Schools are among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools are among their state's highest performing schools in closing the gaps in achievement between different student groups over the past five years.

The US Department of Education will formally recognize all the honored schools at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on November 15, 2019.

Day Creek Intermediate School students are consistently amongst the top performing of all intermediate schools in the state based on the results of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The school attributes its success to its Personally Achieving Character and Knowledge (PACK) program. Through this program educators examine student data to determine individual needs and provide differentiated levels of support during the school day.
